Air pollution can be of two types: indoor (from cooking fires and lighting), and outdoor (from sources that are vented outside the home as well as industrial production, automobiles, and so on). How would you expect the environmental Kuznets curves for these two types of pollution to compare to each other?

Hi,

Hope you are doing well!

Question:

Answer:

Environmental Kuznets curves:

Environmental Kuznets curves explain about the relationship between economic growth and the pollution level. It is in U (inversely) shape. As per this curve a economy enjoy a clean environment before starting it economic development, when the country start growing then its face the problem of increasing pollution level but after a certain level of growth then the environment level improved and society enjoys a good level of environment. So the relationship between the economic growth and better environment level is positive and move together in the similar direction.

When economy grow then its increased the number of economic activities and the consumption level also, that increase the pollution level but after a certain level of growth the environment level improved and country/society enjoys a good environment because the income level of citizens are increased that increased their living standard and they are more capable to paying higher prices in return for better environmental standards. The government regulation, technology, economic structure, source of energy etc improve that provide a better life to the citizens and improve the environment quality also.

Indoor pollution is related to cooking fires and lighting, and outdoor pollution is related to the sources that are vented outside the home as well as industrial production, automobiles, and so on. The Environmental Kuznets Curves talk about about the relationship between economic growth and the pollution level.

When a economy is at a initial phase of economic growth or development that time the income level of citizens is very low, technology is outdated, country mostly depends upon the agricultural and manufacturing industry, people use of the old sources of energy like wooden, coal etc. So, these all things that is combination of outdoor and indoor pollution produce more pollution at initial phase of economic growth or development of a country. There is no specific differentiation and comparison between indoor and outdoor pollution has been explained or discussed separately in the Environmental Kuznets Curves.  Environmental Kuznets Curves talk about both the indoor and outdoor pollution together and explain the relationship between environmental quality and economic development.

Thank You
