How is social inequality is influenced by individual and institutional discrimination with drug addiction? Identify an actual solution to the problem of drug addiction in social inequality. Summarize the solution you identified and compare it to historical solutions proposed in the past
Most of those who engage in drug addiction do so because of their lack of opportunities to make their lives better. Continuous discrimination would lead people to experience unemployment, poverty and lack of facilities to lead a decent life. Institutional racism would systematically neglect people of colour in terms of education, employment, housing, healthcare, property and political participation. Thus, they would be forced live in unhealthy conditions and unsafe neighbourhood which would slowly guide them to drug addiction. Broken families, abusive parenting, lack of resources would motivate them to engage in deviant behaviours and crime thus, would be targeted by criminal justice system. One of the most important solution is to educate and train people for job without any discrimination which would instil hope and trust on the society. This would mean that when people are employed and have an income to look after the family and lead a decent life people wouldn’t engage in drugs. Besides, helping them with better housing and healthcare facilities would help them pick up better habits.
