The four types of segmentation in marketing are:
- Demographic segmentation: the segmentation based on acquired
statistical data. Well in a cloth category some of them include
Age, Size, gender just to name a few. Kids have different set of
designs when compared to adults. The same applies to genders and
size as well. Some firms launch marketing campaign specifically
targeting the plus size demographic due to the dearth in cloth
choices for them.
- Psychographic segmentation: This segmentation in marketing is
done with respect to personality, preferences and characteristics
of a consumer. For instance, in clothing some people might prefer
luxury products over the contemporary ones, or some potential
customers might be more allured towards casual clothing. Basically
a segmentation based on lifestyle is made through this.
- Behavioral segmentation: As the name suggests, this
segmentation is done on the basis of the consumer's reaction and
purchasing habits. In the scenario of clothing industry, this could
be seen as how well a consumer engages with your brand through
comments, inquiries on social media, how often do they visit the
site and the coversion rate, and ofcourse their purchasing
trends.
- Geographic segmentation: probably one of the most important
segmentation in marketing, this deals with consumer segmentation on
the basis of country, city and in some cases climate for seasonal
clothing segments. A plethora of relevance is seen in the clothing
industry as well. Clothing interests suited to a particular country
are marketed extensively through campaigns and affilitates. In
winter season, warm clothes, sweaters, blankets are promoted more
than anything else. I would say that geographic segmentation is the
basis for all the others mentioned above this.
Hope this helps. Do hit the thumbs up. Cheers!
