There
can be two major reasons for why God is often described in the
masculine form-
- Social construct- our society has been a
patriarchal driven society from the time of its Origins, which is
why beings with more power and authority are often masculine in
gender. In the past, males were responsible for taking care of the
family and providing them with necessary resources along with moral
support and advice for the whole family. males were responsible for
keeping a check on the behaviour of family members by teaching them
morals and values which were expected from them by the society. All
these factors lead to the Association of God as a father figure
which makes it a masculine gender.
- Statistical reasoning- there is enough evidence to
suggest that most boys who are not brought up by both of their
fathers, have a high probability of getting involved with criminal
offences and also not being able to complete school. researchers
have found that even girls prefer to be guided by masculine figures
and the majority of female prisoners in America did not grow with a
father. The main concept of many religions including Christianity
is that there should be no Evil in the society. Evil is also
associated with masculine gender. Now to keep males in check there
is a requirement of father figure who can command them to ‘Do Good’
and “Be caring’ towards others.
