1- Go into a Starbucks and Dunkin - what looks the same and what looks different...

1- Go into a Starbucks and Dunkin - what looks the same and what looks different from a store layout?  How does the Starbucks experience differ than Dunkin. Also - is the product the same in our opinion?

2- Visit a large food store such as ShopRite, Trader Joes, Whole Foods, etc. Look around and see the psycho - design of the shelves, location of food items, products in front and back and shelf space of products. What patterns do you see?

  • The layout of Starbucks is very attractive to young people and according to its website it wants to create an atmosphere of connecting and socialization.
  • It creates a more of lounge atmosphere. Most of the Starbucks have a very big place inside its stores and it looks very comfortable and feels like sitting and chatting with friends.
  • The light is very dim and it makes the atmosphere very cozy. Dunkin on the other hand is meant for people on their way to work or school. It has a very fast paced environment and its stores are extremely small.
  • Most of them have only 3 to 4 tables. Some of its stores do not have even in a space that a few people can sit. In such stores people can simply go and make orders.
  • Dunkin creates a layout atmosphere in which people can grab their cup of coffee and go on with their daily work.
  • Starbucks experience changes from Dunkin in many ways. The main focus of Starbucks is to target people who have higher income and have professional careers.
  • They provide them a certain type of coffees and the target audience is between the age 18 years to 44 years. It offers free Wi-Fi and most of the college students are seated in Starbucks and study. Starbucks offers a wide variety of bread and sandwiches and small all sorts of desert. It also offers a health menu.
  • Alternatively, the atmosphere of Dunkin is quite opposite to that of Starbucks. It offers sandwiches, muffins and wraps etc.
  • The products provided by them differ in variety the price of Dunkin is less as compared to Starbucks. The price of small, medium and large in Dunkin is 1.39, 1.69, 1.89 dollars respectively while in Starbucks it is 1.75,1.96 and 2.07 dollars.
  • Equally use the same kind of mobile application which has similar functions to place orders for the customers.

  • In the ShopRite, as a product of the major thrive of the cooperative system, there has been no set of any format for the building architecture, store layout plans, or colour scheme of the storefronts. Trader Joes was a competitor in "fresh format" in the grocery stores.
  • The store is well aligned and formal pattern is the always visible the way the store operates through 500+ stores.
  • Whole Foods, the stores are mainly operated under the premise that they need these complete freedoms to meet the unique buying needs of its local customers, the display pattern in a straight vertical way, and the easy to choose kind of approach at the standard pattern.
