DAST 20 drug abuse screening test is a method for identify the individual who abuse psychoactive substance It consists of 20 items which is self- report or structured interview format contains yes or no response. It gives quantitative index score of the degree of problem related to drug use and misuse. It consists of question regarding multiple drug use and some of the types of problem caused by drug use or abuse in terms if marital family, social relationship and employment, legal and physical problem. It can be adapted for use by adolescent. Sixth grade minimum reading level.completion time 5 minutes and normative score is six or greater. It is also suggested that score six or greater be considered very severe abuse or a dependency conditions.
It can be administer a qualified drug councilor, only careful reading and adherence to the instruction in" DAST guidelines for administration and scoring " which is provided, is required.
