In psychological terms a person would use defence mechanism to protect themselves from anxiety.
defence mechanism is psychological responses which protect person from threats and things that they dont want to think about or deal with. it also safeguard a mind against feelings and thoughts that are too difficult for conscious mind to cope with.
* following names of defence mechanism which are as follows:
1. repression - it is unconcious mechanism employed by ego to keep disturbing or threatening thoughts from becoming concious.
2. Denial- it blocking external event from awreness for example smokers may refuse to admit themselves that smoking is bad for thier health
3. projection- it is individuals attributing their own unacceptable thoughta, feelings and motives to another person . for example you hate someone but your superego tell you that such hatred is unaccepatable. you can solve this problem by believing that they hate you.
4. regression- this ia movement back in psychological time when one faced with stress.
5. displacement- satisfying impulse with substitute object such as if someone frusted by his boss or child frusted by his teacher then they go home and kick dog .
