Describe how the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and Extensible Markup Language (XML) would be utilized in relation to your e-business and the related user Web interfaces. Also indicate the relationship between XML and the Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL). How do you envision using XBRL in relation to your e-business? Finally, what role does XML play in the Semantic Web project discussed in this module?
XML makes it possible to conduct complex business over the Internet. It allows businesses to incorporate their information flows. Information can be seamlessly shared among websites, databases, and other back-end systems. Without a standardized syntax, one company may create unique tags that are unrecognizable to its suppliers and buyers. XBRL is a form of reporting language adopted by ACRA for the purpose of financial statements reporting. JP Morgan and PricewaterhouseCoopers recently proposed FpML to standardize the XML tags for foreign currency exchange and other financial transactions.
Semantic web is a collaborative effort by the W3C and it is used to
promote the common formats for data. The eXtensible Mark-up
Language (XML) and the Resource Description Framework (RDF) have
already developed two essential technologies to grow Semantic Web.
In RDF, a document states that specific objects (people, web pages
or whatever) have properties with certain values. Subjects and
objects shall each be marked by the web page linking.
The Semantic Web will be realized when people create many programs that collect Web content from diverse sources, process the information and exchange the results with other programs.
