What is the difference between assimilationism and multiculturalism?
Assimilation:
A society in which the minor cultures adapts the ways of dominant culture is assimilation. The proponents of assimilation maintains that assimilation is necessary for national integration, development, and prosperity at all. Minority cultures adapting the ways of dominant culture would be profited economically and socially and would help them to leave a better and dignified life. The cultures of minority groups doesn't get enough recognition and respect in assimilation. They are looked down by the dominant group and often discriminated by them. Discrimination by the dominant groups and forcing their culture on the minority groups are the major issues of assimilation.
Multiculturalism:
Multiculturalism encourages diversity of cultures in a society. It believes in the co-existence of all cultures in the society without any discrimination and respecting each other's way. It accepts the people of different cultures as they are and doesn't force to take up the ways of the dominant group. The main problem with multiculturalism is that it may sometimes become a threat to national integration if the issues between the various cultures becomes bitter, as it may promote clashes among the conflicting group threatening internal security of the society or the nation
