Write a 150-word character analysis of the protagonist King Oedipus as he is portrayed in the portion of the play.
Oedipus is the king of Thebes who was an excellent ruler. He anticipated his subjects and their needs and worked for their welfare. Before the arrival of the need, he managed to cure the need. He was one of the great warriors who was harsh and behave rashly in-front of his enemies. He became the king of Thebes by defeating Sphinx and saving his men from him. He was swift and confident in his approach throughout his life. Teiresias, the blind seer of Thebes doesn’t want to tell what Oedipus wants to hear. He banished Creon, his wife Jocasta’s brother and Teiresias of plotting against him. The Oracle of Apollo told him that he will be the one who would have children from his own mother and will be the one who would kill his own father. At the end when Oedipus comes to know that he had in real married her own mother, he finds Jocasta dead. He became mad after realizing the reality. He puts his eyes out with the golden brooches of Jocasta so that he cannot see the reality. In the end, he confessed before the people that he was the one who killed their king and married their queen. He even cursed the herdsman who has saved him from death when he was an infant. He pleaded Creon to send him out of Thebes so that no person can ever see him again in his lifetime. He also asks him to look after the sons and daughters which he had with his own mother. In this way, the life of Oedipus ended in grief.
