1. How does temperature affect solubility of salicylic acid based on your results?

2. Explain how you used Beer

Solutions

Expert Solution

1.

As the temperature increases, the solubility of salicylic acid also increases.

------------

2.

Beer's law is used to determine K.

A = bc

Where,

is the molar absorbtivity

b is the path length

c is the concentration

Thus, based on absorbtivity we find the concentrations.

From the concentrations we find K.

----------------

3.

When salicylic acid is dissolved in water, it produces a salicylate dianion, which reacts with an acidic solution of Fe(III)(NO3)3, to produce a highly colored (violet) tetraaquosalicylatroiron(III) complex.

The appearance of violet color is measured quantitatively to determine the amount of salicylic acid present in the solution. The more the violet the solution is, the more salicylate present.

b is t
b is the path length of the sample - that is, the path length of the cuvette in which the sample is contained. We will express this measurement in centimetres.
c is the concentration of the compound in solution, expressed in mol L-1
