What are some of the greatest barriers preventing our schools from meeting the educational goals for ELL students today? Consider efforts that promote and/or suppress dual language or two-way bilingual initiatives and programs. What recommendations are offered in your readings that address those barriers? Who do you see as potential change agents for implementing those recommendations?
There are also other cultures which support their own culture in schools. As a result these students lack english proficiency. I am into field of translation, i have went through many changes or obstacles in learning a foreign language. As far as any bilingual initiatives are considered, many exams, competitions, debates, good earning opportunities are helps to gain the market of bilingual students. To over come barriers some schools have implemented CALL (Computer assisted learning language, this is expensive technique,. Attitudes of teachers also matter, they have negative attitude towards students.
ELL can ask for funding in case they want to implement CALL or basically a teacher by heart should be recruited so that students learn properly. A teacher should have interest in teaching and solving querries, she or he should love the job.
If such changes are implemented, students would get interested in teacher first which would drive them towards language.
