What are some of the greatest barriers preventing our schools from meeting the educational goals for ELL students today? Consider efforts that promote and/or suppress dual language or two-way bilingual initiatives and programs. What recommendations are offered in your readings that address those barriers? Who do you see as potential change agents for implementing those recommendations?
ELL stands for English language Learner It refer to students who receiven any language assistance program .
Those are part of ELL comes from diverse background and differ in ethnicity, culture, educational and socioeconomic status.
Biggest Barriers
Parental Education- Usually parent of ELLs are less educated and hence they could not help child after a secondary level.
Socio-Economic Status - Generally ELLS come from lower socio eco families. They could not afford high cost education and tution. Due to this , they donot hot fir 4 years bachelor's which us best way to come out if poverty.
Legal Barriers -- Most if ELLs are immigrants , so they face various legal challenges. Some schools put harsh condition that denies immigrants oppurtunity to learn english.
Efforts that will boost ELLs learning can be achieved through counsellors.
Counselorscan prove to most effective agent , they need to understand that ELLs face an extraneous amount of obstacles that decrease their higher educational oppurtunities
It is also important to be aware of strategies that can be used to support ELLs in their trajectory to college .
Educating and countries selling the parents would be of great help in this regard.
Counsellor must take initiatives to make available the choices of colleges which offer seats in bachelor's at low cost . Alternatively , he could inform students about government scholarship for such students.
Counsellor can resolve most of problems ELLs face and positively shape their view of the future.
