decribe the Russian world view of international relation
Russia, a collectivist society is in a state of transition. It's present world views are being framed by political disturbance within the country. Russia has been described by many as a 'child looking to find it's way in the new world'. As far as politics is concerned, Russia has been under 'authoritarian rule' and has remained comparitively protected from outside world. Russia's current President, Vladimir Putin has been analyzed to have a combative and capricious approach to foreign policy, which has escalated the possibility of miscalculation and crisis situation. The source of Russian worldview is Russian state television.
The Russians have been labelled as the most active viewers in the world. They watch television on an average of 4 hours per day. Television provides information about a hostile world, and presents Russia as both its victim and a great power. A major portion of the Russian population has internalized the messages propagated via the medium of television. Television nurtures feelings and provides emotional experiences via news, talks shows and TV programs. People's indifference towards politics is a part of their self preservation technique. The Russian media, more specifically, all main television channels are in direct or indirect control of Putin and his associates. The media displays wars and dispute with the West to Russian citizens. It merges news programs with entertainment and films to produce emotions.
Russia considered its status in the world was not approved. Its relations with the West had not been framed on an equal ground. While serving the first two terms of his rule, Putin declared that Russia is a European nation, with European values and standards. But, this view no longer exists. Russia is viewed as an antagonist or enemy of the U.S. and NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization). But, the West did not consider Russia as an enemy. The US knew itself to be the most powerful country in the world. Also, life was extremely good, post the Cold War, and the West shared acceptable relations with Russia. In 2014, Russia changed its foriegn policy, and commenced on a power contest with the West, over Ukraine. Thus, Russia and the West could not be united to deal with terrorism.
Since 2008, Russia commenced on the apportionment of sufficient funding in order to upgrade the military, provide superior training to the military personnel and enhance nuclear forces. But the U.S. is not likely to start another arms race with Russia. The U.S is of the view that the economic sanctions against Russia will cause Kremlin to alter its foreign policy.
