In what ways do international institutions ( United Nations, World Trade Organization, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, World Health Organization, and North Atlantic Treaty Organization... etc ) reflect the legacies of colonialism? Offer twospecific examples and explain how these institutions could be modified to better reflect the interests of non-Western states.
--> After the Westphalia treaty(1648),many nation states came into existence especially in Europe mainly on homogeneous lines.Since then began the international relations and world trade, but there are no international organisations to ensure cordial relations and prosperous trade. Later world realised the need of such organisations due to WW1 and WW2.
-->After WW2,major international institutions came into existence such as UN,IMF,WB,WHO NATO etc. Most of these organisations were established at the behest of the western countries as the world is still run by colonialist policies. Most developing and other countries got freedom after the establishment of above institutions which shows the absence of consensus based-comomom guiding platforms. More or less these institutions still run by western countries to promote their regional interests.Still many of the above institutions reflect colonialist tendencies due to inappropriate quotas, special privileges, membership etc.
--> Reforming the above institutions is the need of the hour. For example,UNSC membship is irreverent and illogical and it can be made more inclusive by adding some developing countries.Another example is IMF quota system which is determined by donations of sepecific countries. It is better to consider more criteria to help developing countries.
