Answer)

Definitely Russia's use of fake news and misinformation lead to influencing 2016 US election with regards to reviewing the content for repository publicly present in twitter data from that of Russia's internet research agency and also defines the communication establishment and strategy for appealing Russia's informational logic for any false information or that of the identity logic and this also defines that Russia with the use of IRA invested in the information or that of identity instead of any informational claims in particular with that of maximum Russia's linked communication which defined that candidature for Donald Trump's identity as well as for his opponent.

They mostly used 2 approaches:

1) Created accounts and presented those as news outlets while positioning those as believable or trusted sources of the information

2) Showed up content for some of the accounts which would create an incorrect claim with regards to policy position as well as for specific current state affairs which in turn would undermine the connection among the choices as well as preferences.

After this, the influence operation worked on identity which implied it to be fake news. there was a concern for self-identity from that of the need to ontological security aspect and allowing one's to connect as well as endow their life with a specific meaning. Such identities defined meaning as to who they are and what they are associated with.

Yes, the government should regulate Facebook more closely as there has been instances where the identity theft has happened in the recent past. This is involving children who are more and more into social media these days and without any regulation which is giving a way to the hacker for taking an identity and performing crime. Terrorist are also using internet to recruit the ground team and extend an arm for criminal activities.

Hence it is important to have a safe world and removing ourselves from platform which are not realistic which is why continuous monitoring and scrutiny is needed to get rid of the worst. While everyone is switching to virtualization and it is being being rewritten with the digital age hence government should regulate the use of facebook more closely as people using facebook also involve in racism and terrorism.
