Solids are characterized by incompressibility, regidity and have mechanical strength.solids have ,definite shape and volume.

What is matter. What are basic  types of matter

Solutions

Expert Solution

Anything having mass (but not weight) and occupies space is called matter.Entire universe is made up of matter, and it is said that 99% universe is made up of plasma.

There are basic three types of matter and rest two plasma and Bose einestein condensate are still under research.

Solid liquid and gas

Solids are characterized by incompressibility, regidity and have mechanical strength.solids have  ,definite shape and volume. Eg wood, gold, iron etc.The intermolecular distance of solids are less as compared to liquids.i.e there molecules are closely packed. The kinetic energy of molecules is less.

Liquids have definite volume, but not definite shape. They took the shape of container in which they are filled.Eg water, milk etcThe intermolecular distance of liquids are greater than solids, but less than gases. The kinetic energy of molecules of liquids are greater than solids but lesser than gases.liquida have high fluidity and low compressible i.e slightly compressible.

Gasses: A substance is said to be gaseous if it neither posses a definite volume not definite shape. This is because they completely occupy the container in which they are filled.eg Hydrogen, oxygen and carbon dioxide etc.Gasses have high compressibility, low density and flow easily.Kinetic energy of molecules is maximum

Solids have definite shape and volume, liquids have definite volume but not definite shape, gases neither definite shape not definite volume.

I have a question about converting Solids concentartion by precent volume to Solids concentration by precent weight. in a mineral processing problem we were given the solid concentration by precent weight and and asked to convert it to solid concentartion by precent volume as following: 55% w/w (given) SG = 2.95 assuming we have 100 g of solids we found first the volume of the solids that way: Vs = [(100g*(55/100))/2.95] = 18.64407 then we found the volume of water...
