how do we address social determinants factors within the communities?
Social determinants refer to access to power, money and
resources and conditions of daily life that affect health and
wellbeing for groups of people.
Theseconditions support or limit the health of a community or a
population.Health disparities or inequalitiesnoccur when there are
differences in conditions(where people born,live,work and
play)acrossdifferent groups.
For eg;racial/ethninic minorities experience poorer healthwhen they
are more,
*exposed to hazards through poor housing and worhing
conditions
*vulnerable due to poor education and limited resources
*likely to have adverse consequences due tolack of adequate
resources.
In Untited states ,the health obectives for the nation include the
goal of create social and physical environment that promoote good
health for all by addressing social determinanats of health
(Healthy people,2020).
To achieve this vision will require a whole communitybapproach in
which differnt sectors-ealth,education,housing
,labor,justice,transportation,agriculture and environment-all work
together to aasure conditions for health.
To be successfull,this approach requires canges at the levels of
individuals,relationships,comminities and broader systems.
Need for developing social determinants:
such initiative use a participatorybprocess thatvinvolves all
sectors of te community
aiming at social determinants get the root cause of inequity
a social determinants effort adderss social change through the
development of greater equity
it helps create community partership tha can endure and be directed
to other issues as well
a social determinantseffort uses the knowledge of those most
affected,as well as that of others in the community
