8) Describe the elements of an experiment. Describe the elements of a correlational study. What sorts of
questions does each type of study examine?
9) What is a
normative
history graded
or
cohort
effect? Describe three different “cohorts” that were born
during the last century. Describe three differences between the experiences of your cohort and your
grandparents’ cohort.
Correlation is a study of relations between two variables. If A happens then there is a chance that B will also follow. The correlation can be positive or negative if variable A increases than the variable B will also increase, and in negative correlation theory if variable A increases then variable B will decrease. The simple example of a jingle (variable A ) of an ice cream truck and the distance of the truck (variable B), If ice cream truck is nearby louder the jingle, means variable A increases closer the variable B.
Normative is establishing or deriving from a standard or norms especially of behavior. Normative history-graded influences are those influences within the life course that is correlated with the historical time and are experienced by the majority of people or by generation. This involves a change in behavior, and this gives evidence that human is social in need companionship and association.
These are of two types 1. Biological determinants like epidemic war or famine, all these will have different effects on the different group of people, 2. Environmental determinants, this includes depression due to some sudden events like WW II
