  4. Which of the following options is correct?
  5. When mRNA molecules are formed, they are complementary to DNA with the exception that

  6. an A in DNA matches a T in mRN
  7. a T in DNA matches a C in mRNA.
  8. an A in DNA matches a G in mRNA.
  9. an A in DNA matches a U in mRNA.
  10. What does mRNA do in protein synthesis? What does tRNA do?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Ans :-1) Anticodon

Anticodon is a sequence of three nucleotides on tRNA molecules that bond to complementary sequence on an mRNA molecule.

One end of tRNA binds to specific amino acid and the other end has anticodons that will bind to mRNA codon.

Ans :-2) sulfur

In RNA adenine, uracil, guanine and cytosine are present. At 5' end phosphate is present and at 2' OH is present.

Sulphur is present in proteins.

Ans :-3) RNA polymerase 1 and RNA polymerase 3.

RNA polymerase 1 synthesizes pre mRNA which matures and will form the major portion of RNA on ribosomes while RNA polymerase 3 synthesizes tRNA, rRNA and other small RNAs. RNA polymerase 2 synthesizes precursor of mRNA.

Ans :-4) option d. An A in DNA matches a U in mRNA.

Dna have 4 base pairs - adenine, thymine, guanine, cytosine

But in case of RNA uracil is present in place of thymine.

Ans :-5) mRNA (messenger RNA) molecules carry the coding sequence for protein synthesis and are called transcripts.

Ans :6)tRNA (transfer RNA) molecules carry amino acid to the ribosomes during protein synthesis.
