Climate Change, Income Inequality, Automation and Jobs
Do you believe that they constitute an existential threat? What will society need to change to avoid the worst effects of each threat? What will society look like if no changes are made or they are not made in time?
The Climate is undergoing the sharp change, thus now extreme weather conditions are very frequent. The productivities losses would be high due to the sharp charge in the climatic conditions.
Next, the income inequalities are rising rapidly and it would essentially make the growth lopsided and certain section of society would be debarred from the benefits of economic growth. Further, the automation is going to the reduce the demand for the human resource significantly. Thus, unemployment would be prime issue in the future.
These challenges need to be addressed from very beginning as these might create the social and political tension. The political system might become the unstable due to the rise in the unemployments and inequalities. Thus, economic benefits must be distributed to some extend through democratic system.
There is need to increase the skills and education to all backward and poor section of society. it would create the awareness about the envionrment and second, the income equalities is possible only through upgradation of skills and trainings. The education is key factor that might lead the society towards the more egalitarian system.
Further, the population must be controlled as the economy can not provide the jobs new human resources that is being added every year.
