The meaning of Health can be viewed in many contexts, such as historical, social, personal, scientific, philosophical and spiritual. health is not perceived the same way by all the individuals including all health professionals like biomedical scientist , ecologist, social scientist etc., hence it gave rise to a confusion in concepts of health.
The various concepts of health are biomedical concept, ecological concept, psychosocial concept, holistoic concept. Biomedical concept considered health as 'absence of disease' and minimized the role of cultural, social, and environmental determinants of health. Whereas, ecologial concept states health as dynamic equilibrium between man and his environment .Psychosocial concept considers health as notonly biomedical phenomenon but also influenced by social, cultural, psychological, economic and political concerns of an individual. Holistic concept was synthesized from all the above concepts where it emphasizes on the promotion and protection of health, health is described as a multidimensional process involving the wellbeing of a person as whole.
