What is the significance of the Christian Divergence (split between the Roman Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodox Church)? Discuss its consequences for the west and the world at large.
Eastern orthodox Catholics and Roman Catholics are the result of what is known as the East - West Schism of 1054,and Christianity split into two branches.
The Eastern church becomes Greek orthodox church by serving out all ties with Rome and Roman Catholic church .The Roman Catholic church is the largest Christine church played a prominent role in the history and development of Western civilization headed by Bishop of Rome.The orthodox Catholic church is the second oldest religious institution in the world and played a role in the Eastern Europe,Greece and believes in no central authority Like Pope..The greatest effect of the Schism was the creation of two seperate church that were previously unified under one church..This lead to doctrinal,theological and linguistic ,political and geographical differences and affect the west and the rest of the world.Since Christians are the largest community in the world ,it divided it's beliefs by not considering Pope as the supreme authority as in case of Eastern orthodox .This division lead to cultural as well as economical and political division between eastern and western regions also there were crusades for saving and conquering Constantinople which lead to political instability mainly in European region.Hence the differences are profound and affect the world and west .
