the patient has a order for 1 L of 0.9% NS to infuse over 8 hours. at what rate will the nurse set the infusion?

Solutions

Expert Solution

1L means 1000ml

1000ml to be given for 8hours

For 1hr(60mins Or 3600sec), (1000/8 ) ml to be given ie 125ml.

For 1min, 125/60 ml to be given

If 1ml contains 18drops.

So 125/60 ml contains {(125/60) ×18}drops or 37.5drops.

So 37.5 drops to be given for 1 min or drip rate is 37.5drops/min or roughly 38drops/min.
