Compare and contrast the psychological and sociological analyses of prejudice. Use examples to illustrate the different concepts and point out where the two approaches create a full understanding of prejudice.
Psychological factors of prejudice includes three components of behaviour. They are cognitive, behavioural, affective.
Prejudice consists of behaviour which consists of a person's belief / perception of a group.
Sexism is a kind of sociological prejudice : This is a type of prejudice which is made , based on a person's sex/gender.
It particularly affects women and girls . It contains the belief that , one gender is superior to that of other .
Eg : Women are paid less as compared to that of men.
Sociological prejudice can be also genocide .
Genocide is an act commited to destroy the whole of national , ethnic and religious group.(eg: killing members of a particular group)
Sociological perspective deals with the society in general . It deals with the problems relating to society. Whereas the Psychological perspective deals with the behaviour of an individual in general .
Psychological prejudice is affective in nature .
Eg : It is concerned with the likes/dislikes of an individual .
(i.e. a person having a dislike towards a particular religious group)
