Expert Solution

Solution:

Here, we are being asked to review a nominal scale that identifies users versus non-users of an online journal for primary school pupils.

The most appropriate measure of central tendency is : option C : Mode

Reason: In a nominal scale, a number is being assigned to each categorical group. Here the number doesn’t have any significance, they are merely used to identify each group.

For example, in our case, non users of the online journal can be assigned number 0 and users can be assigned number 1.

So by calculating range, mean and median doesn’t give us the idea of the entire data set and hence we cannot form a proper conclusion.

Mode is the number which appears most often in the series. So if we found the mode for this data set to be 1, we can interpret that there are more users of an online journal and vice versa.
