Sales targets are set up by the company to achieve higher sales
and in terms increase revenue of the company.
For this purpose sales manager are given the responsibility to
manage the sales targets/goals. And such sales targets/goals should
be set up at a realistic level (i.e at a achievable levels) by the
manager.
If sales goals are not set up at realistic level, than there are
the following consequences of setting sales goals at an unrealistic
level :
- In actual manner unrealistic sales goals can reduce the sales
level. This is so because if there are an unrealistic sales goals
set up for salesperson then he (salesperson) may not even put his
actual effort to achieve such sales target.
 
- The quality of sales efforts provided by the salesperson will
also diminish.
 
- It can also be said that the salesperson may give up even
before starting.
 
- Unrealistic salea targets also hurts the moral of
salesperson.
 
- If sales manager set sales goals at an unrealistic levels for
the salesmen, than this will also damage the relationship between
the two. Salesperson will not be happy with such decision taken by
their manager.
