Internet has made life way too easier for people at an individual level and communities in the larger context. Digitalization had brought about a revolution in the way things function nowadays. Hardly any aspect of the society's functioning has remain untouched by this huge change. The face of communication has been transformed. Video chats, instant messengers and chat rooms have taken over the world of SMS. Instant availability of information, images and products has been another. Moreover the way industries and businesses operate has also changed tremendously due to internet. Global partners are now able to connect with the members within the organization and the ones are abroad within seconds. Everyday a new app or a new internet innovation makes life more and more convenient for its users. However it comes with its own shares of advantages as well as dark sides. The advantages have been listed above wherein the communication, shopping, transacting and interacting patterns have changed for the better. However, the dark side is that the information we share of ourselves at an individual or even an organizational level is unsafe and can be tracked and misused by negative elements. Internet hacking and loot over the web has become one of the most common ways of making easy money. Moreover, children who are a vulnerable section of the society are put at risk due to the exposure of internet and social media. Games such as the blue whale and momo challenge as well as other potential risks of internet harrassment and bullying puts children and even adults at risk. Many a times, online harrassment has gone to the extent of causing depression and suicide amidst youth. A young teenager named Tyler Clementi committed suicide after facing harrassment online post the leakage of a footage wherein he was kissing a male counterpart. Shame is an intense emotion and when we stop clicking with compassion, it can lead to devastating outcomes. As a society, we need to be mindful consumers who know where to draw the boundary and understand the difference between the real and virtual life. Students who are young and spend extreme amount of time face negative outcomes in their studies as well. There have been researches claiming that the hormones secreted in the brain when someone counts likes on social media are the same when an addict is craving the substance. This clearly means internet is an addiction too and many people literally suffer from these. Another observation is that women who finds their identity through the attention they get on the internet often become obsessed with their bodies and develop eating disorders. It has lethal reactions on the body almost making a person more prone to a sooner than expected death in worst cases.
