Ohio, along with many other states as well as other countries, has issued Stay-at-Home orders. Colleges have closed campus and many may have moved back to home communities. Answer the following questions:
1) Should first responders (i.e.: Police Officers and/or Fire Fighters) get “hazard pay” during the Pandemic. If so, how much and how do you propose to finance the extra cost? If not, why not? If your community does not have a police or fire department, what impact do you think the Pandemic will have on current government operations and services of your community?
2) What impact is the COVID-19 Pandemic likely to have on the financial results of the community for 2020 and 2021?
1. Definitely the first responders must get hazard pay for the commendable job that they are doing in the current pandemic situation. Coronavirus is a contagious virus and has been the cause of death for many across the world. The first responders are risking their lives for their duty for the overall society. It is the responsibility of the society to recognize and applaud them for their job. Majority of the individuals are either on paid leaves or are working from home. The First Responders are at the forefront to make it easy for us to live through this pandemic situation.
They must be given hazard pay, equivalent to 1.5 of their monthly salary. Moreover the governments must come up with health insurance for all these workers. The amount for the hazard pay and insurance can be drawn from the disaster and CSR fund of the government. This can prove to be an incentive for the First Responders and a small sign of gratitude from the overall society for their dedication and risk appetite in this situation.
If the community does not have a police or fire department, the government may be required to get the army to establish shutdown in the region. Volunteers can also come up to facilitate the sanitization of the overall society. This way, such communities can sustain the current Coronavirus pandemic situation with least casualties.
2. COVID-19 pandemic has led to shutdown situation in 75% of the overall world. Various sectors and industries have been badly hit by this pandemic. The overall trade of the world has come to a halt. This situation is quite gleam and the countries must focus on the basic sustenance first. There will be financial breakdown in the year 2020 for sure. If the COVID-19 gets controlled in the coming 3 months, then the economy all over the world will be on path of recovery in the year 2021. However, financial conditions are the secondary situation and can be taken care of later. The need of the hour is basic sustenance of the overall society.
