In your own words, summarize what you believe to be James’ main thesis?
James' main thesis talks about the belief without any proof. Generally, we believe on what we see but there are some beliefs which are far away from any evidence. It is based on our faith. We believe in god but none has seen him. It is mainly based on trust, faith, emotions, experiences and teachings.
Many people criticize such thinking. They have belief that without evidence only superstitions are blossomed. Reality goes far away and anarchy is created. A state of dejection is being developed due to inequality of thoughts and all these happens just because of absence of reality and practicality.
Sometimes evidences are not necessary for a belief. For example, a scientist develops a hypothesis without any evidences, later on he/she tests his/her hypothesis through various experimental work and converts the hypothesis into a theory with the help of positive experimental results.
Theory is being tested for a long time on various parameters and after successful execution; a law is being developed. Hence, it is not necessary to have evidences behind every belief. We should work on our beliefs with trust and confidence along with positive attitude. We should keep ourself far away from superstitions and should respect everyone's emotions.
