Can you summarize this video in your own words? What is the main idea? What is something you find interesting? At least 12 sentences. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5x19lwPnbo&feature=youtu.be
The video explains how the respiratory system works. Basically, it consist of the larynx, which connects with the trachea. The trachea divides into two brunchus (the primary brunchus), which then divides into two secondary brunchus. The division goes on until the formation of segmental brunches, terminal brunches and, finally, alveoli. In each of the alveolus, the gas exchange takes place: the oxygen we breathe exchanges with the carbon dioxide. The capillaries of the pulmonar artery receive the oxygen from the "hollow" part of the alveolus and release CO2 to it. In this process, the capillaries progressively gain oxygen, and when they come together and exit the lungs they form the pulmonary vein, which returns the blood to the heart, so the body can get oxygen.
The respiratory system is categorized in two segments: the conducting segment (from the nose to the bronchiole) and the respiratory segment (from the bronchiole to the alveolus). The first one just serves as a conduct to the air, whereas in the second the gas exchange takes place.
To conclude, the alveolus is formed by two tipes of cells: the type I cell and the type II cell. The first one is thin, allowing easy exchange of gases. The latter produces surfactant, which reduces the surface tension of the alveoli (this avoids the collapse of the alveoli during exhalation, among other things).
To summarize, the video tells us with a very basic perspective how the respiratory system does the gas exchange for the body. It is interesting to note how the exchange is produced in the alveolus: the whole system is incredibly efficient to allow the passage of oxygen and CO2 (note the types of cells present).
