Compare and contrast the melting pot, cultural pluralism, and bi-cultural model.
Melting pot refers to different cultures living together in harmony by appreciating, acknowledging and adopting the best practices from each other thus creating a new culture that would represent everyone. This is one of the best models that would help people live without any stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination. Cultural pluralism refers to people from different cultures living in the same society but within their own cultural beliefs, customs and practices. This would create more trouble for people who belong to the minority cultures because their practices and values would be regarded as inferior by people from majority culture. they would also discriminate the minority culture people based on other physical differences. Bi-cultural practice refers to people adopting to more than one culture apart from their own. This would mean that when people move to another country, they would have no issues in following the customs and practices of the host country as they would be more open towards exposure and experience which would help them mingle well and avoid stereotyping. However, they wouldn’t be accepted by the majority people because of their inability to leave their own cultural practices and they would be regarded as outclass by their own people since they adopt different practices. Of all, melting pot is the solution for people who decide to live together in order to create a common identity.
