Matt is giving a presentation to his class about transformers. For one example he makes the following analysis: “The ratio of windings in this transformer from the primary circuit to the secondary circuit are 2:25. This makes it a step-up transformer. Since the voltage in the primary circuit is 10.0 V, the voltage in the secondary circuit will be (10.0 V)(25/2) = 125 V. The current in the primary circuit is 4.00 A, so the current in the secondary circuit will be (4.00 A)(25/2) = 50.0 A.” Is Matt’s analysis correct? If not, identify the mistake he made and correct it.
Draw two diagrams showing the direction of current induced in a coil both when a magnet moves toward the coil and when the magnet moves away. Use these to explain Lenz’s law and why the current is in the directions indicated.
