4. A video game console requires 6 V to operate correctly. A transformer allows the device to be powered from a 120-V outlet. If the primary has 500 turns, how many turns for the secondary?

Solutions

Expert Solution

According to the given problem,

The Transformer has,

no. of primary turns,    N1 = 500

no. of secodary turns, N2 = ? (to be calculated)

primary voltage,          V1 = 120V

secodary voltage,      V2 = 6V

Using the formula,

Transformer ratio,             ( N1 / N2 ) = ( V1 / V2 )

       therefore,                    N2 = ( V2 / V1 ). N1    ------------------------------- (1)

substituting values in eqn. (1),               N2 = ( 6 /120 ) X 500

                                            N2 = 25 turns

Secondary of transformer has, 25 turns.
