Write 5 paragraph Discussing a Movies or a Music or a Toys that you remember watching/playing/listening to as a kid and how these compare against socialized roles (whether it be male, female or both)
I loved watching Disney fairytale movies when I was a kid. I used to love various princesses and how they were saved by their princes in the movies.
But as ai grew up, I realize how one-dimensional the characterization of the female lead was in these movies. Most of the movies showed a damsel-in-distress princess who had to be saved from the evil step-mother by a handsome prince.
Today, when I reflect upon these movies, I realize that their characterization might have lead to so many gender-related issues we face today. From men being superior in strength and power to women desiring just to get married have led to shaping our culture where the men are considered superior to women.
The evil stepmother routine also developed into a stereotype where every stepmother is considered to be evil, cruel and unloving towards the step-child. It is okay to have been used in a movie or two but to have most of the movies based on the same theme leads to the development of the wrong culture within the society.
Also, there was an added emphasis on white supremacy where most of the characters were white with no depiction of different races, colors, religion, etc.
These movies had more responsibility as they targeted young children who had impressionable minds. Impressing upon them the stereotypical characterization and putting all the characters of different movies into a similar box of features, and attributes might have led to the bias we see in the society today.
