Quantitative research- meaning:

Quantitative is a form of research concerned with investigating things which we could observe and measure in some way. Such observations and measurements can be made objectively and repeated by other researchers.

Qualitative research-meaning:

Qualitative research is concerned with finding the answers to questions which begin with: why? How? In what way? It is unmeasurable. Qualitative research is concerned with developing explanations of social phenomena.

Variable:

A variable, as the name implies, is something that varies. e.g. weight, anxiety and blood pressure are variables, each varies from one person to another.

Independent variable:

An independent variable is a variable in research that causes a change, or is presumed to cause a change to the other variables in the research conducted.

Dependent variable:

The dependent variable is 'dependent' on the independent variable. As the researcher changes the independent variable, the change in the dependent variable is observed and recorded. The dependent variable is the one being measured.
