Marketing has been described as being both an art and a science. As not just science or not just art could define marketing. However, we need to blend both art and science to fulfill such marketing objective. First, let me describe that marketing is art. As, we need to understand customer’s market, their needs, we can shape and meet their needs by creating strengthening focus on idea creation, establishing imaginary perspectives and encouraging creativity. Further, it understands minds, psychological aspects of customers, necessities of the business, all that help to fulfill marketing objective.
Again, marketing is also science, as to understand needs of customers, we need to observe them and do several experiments, study and research. Here, it will consider several variables and forecast the result or demand as needed in the marketing context.
The similarities could be both features like Art and Science as required in the marketing context, both works for meeting common goal of the marketing.
Example:
We want to launch a new mobile product in the market; common goal could be increasing number of sale in the selected market. Here, we will perform various scientific activities like we will conduct necessary study and research rationally; we will evaluate variables like market trends, pricing of this product, and existing number of competitors. Based on such, we will build marketing strategy, product placement and other associated plan logically. Here, we could use historical data as a reference. Thus, launching a new mobile product in the market needs to consider science.
Again, we will prepare innovative ideas and promotional plan, design various innovative tools and bring multiple giveaways for customers. Thus, launching a new mobile product in the market needs to consider Art as well. So, it can be concluded that marketing requires to consider both science and Art to fulfill its common objective.
