How does error influence statistical analyses? What is statistical error?

Solutions

Expert Solution

(a) Question:

What is statistical error?

Statistical Error, also called Random Error, is the difference between the value obtained from a data collection process and the true value for the population. The greater the error, the less representative the data are of the population. Statistical Error is inversely related to Precision and Accuracy. Precision is the closeness of data to other data that have been obtained in exactly the same way. Accuracy is the closeness of a result to its true value.

(b)

How does error influence statistical analyses?

Answer: Statistical Error makes the conclusions arrived by the statistical analyses less reliable. In case the difference between the value obtained from the statistical analyses is more than tolerable limits, the results of the study becomes useless. Thus, it is important for the researcher to keep the Statistical Error under control for getting meaningful results from the experimental data.
