SUBJECT: Philosophy
Immanuel Kant is one of the most influential figures in the world of philosophy, especially his gift, Duty ethics or Deontological ethics is one of the most important ethical theories. It suggests that an act would be considered ethical if it fulfils duty without worrying about the consequences. This would mean that no matter what the circumstances or outcomes of fulfilling one’s duty, one should always stick to it. It’s from duty ethics, Kant arrived at his three categorical imperatives such as acting to the maxim thus it becomes a universal law, not to use people as a means to one’s end but use them as end in themselves and respecting the autonomy of people while deciding the actions.
Ethical pluralism suggests that there are many ethical theories that are relevant and compatible with the society in which they evolved which would mean that all the theories are important to the people who practice them. Thus, no on ethical theory is superior to others and calls for understanding other theories from the perspective of those who practice them. this would help people overcome their stereotypical and prejudicial mindset thus, help people live in a society together. Ethical pluralism would also help people develop open mindedness thus, accept, appreciate, acknowledge and adopt the best practices from other ethical practices. It would also help people develop a sense of humanity and value people based on humanity rather than judge them with their practices and beliefs.
