Solutions

Expert Solution

1. Describe the nursing practice that is consistent with the codes of ethics and whether the nurse violated the codes.

Answer :

Codes of ethics in nursing

The first international code of ethics for nurses

  • International Council of Nurses (ICN)

The examples of national codes of ethics for nurses.

  • . American Nurses Association (ANA)
  •   Canadian Nurse Association

As there are many different associations, many codes of ethics are adopted.

But to make it easy for understanding , I am discussing the code of ethics given by International Council for Nurses(ICN)

Include 4 principal elements:

  1. Nurses and people
  • The nurse’s primary professional responsibility is to people requiring nursing care. Protection of the rights of privacy and confidentiality
  • The human rights, values, customs and spiritual beliefs of the community.
  • Ensures individual receives accurate, sufficient and timely information in a good manner.

2 Nurses and practice

  • Authority, accountability, and responsibility
  • Maintaining competence by continual learning.
  • Responsibility for nursing judgment, decisions, and action.

    3 Nurses and profession

  • Implementation of acceptable standards of clinical nursing practice, management, research, and education.
  • Create a positive practice environment and maintaining safe working conditions in nursing.

4 Nurses and co-workers

  • A collaborative and respectful relationship with co-workers in nursing.

It is clear from the above discussion that the nurse has violated the code of ethics.

The nurse should always have information about that she/he is using for the patient, drug usage , side effects and working equipment, technology.

The nurse must take care guidelines seriously provided by professionals.

The nurse should be accountable always for his actions.

Violation of these codes

  • Nurse and people
  • Nurse and practice
  • Nurse and profession

2. Discuss nursing practice that could have prevented the error.

Answer:

If the nurse was accountable and responsible for her duty,

have information about the dosage of drugs, records of maintaining dose

, this error could have prevented.

We hope from the above discussion your doubts are clear. If u like my discussion, please don't forget to give thumbs up.
