What is a proper Christian response to poverty? Is giving money the answer? What would you suggest American Christians do?
The response to poverty should be human and religious (wherever applicable). Poverty is a national tragedy.
Since the question is about the approach to it from the point of view of Christianity,The Bible gives us everything we need. Biblical principles create more flourishing for more people while simultaneously helping individuals experience personal fulfillment. The best way we can help the poor is by doing our job well. When we live into who God created us to be, we experience joy, reinforce dignity, and serve other people.
What could be done to alleviate poverty?
Relief—offer immediate aid for those truly unable to help themselves, as in a natural disaster, medical emergency, or personal trauma.
Rehabilitation—help people return to pre-crisis conditions of their lives.
Development—assist people working to improve their lives beyond previous experience, recognizing the full potential of their gifts and abilities.
I would also suggest that not only one man can eradicate the poverty. It needs a collective action of the government and the people to get rid of it.
