THE symbolic interactionist theory of deviance refers to the way in which individuals are free to make their own decisions that are guided by the meanings they build from their social interactions.

These interaction can occur in nemerous context and settings. this can then lead a range of behavioural reactions where rules and norms are commonly broken.

STRENGHT OF SYMBOLIC INTERACTIONIST THEORY OF DEVIANCE

1. Symbolic interactionism is a non-structured,individual (micro level) based perspective of deviancy that is characterised by meaning that arise from day to day interactions.

2.Symbolic interactionism allows individuals to have freedom of choice and action in a democratic society (macro level).

3.Symbolic interactionism provides the individual with moral responsibility rather than being externally motivated by fixed-norms.
