As Hill et al. (2014) pointed out in their "Collective Genius" article, “the role of a leader of innovation is not to set a vision and motivate others to follow it. It’s to create a community that is willing and able to innovate.” Please integrate and synthesize the concepts presented in "Collective Genius" with any two course lessons into your leadership and motivation statement. Please cite from where you drew your concepts and also be specific about what resonated with you in the "Collective Genius" article. Think of this as your personal leadership and motivation mantra or brand going forward that you can use when people or future employees and/or teams ask you what leadership and motivation skills you bring to the table (organization).

the role of a leader of innovation is not to set a vision and motivate others to follow it. It’s to create a community that is willing and able to innovate.”

It is true and very well said that the role of a leader for driving the innovation is not to set a vision and communicate the motivatation to people achieving it. Rather, is is to be taken care of the fact to create a community and a culture in your organisation which is able to innovate and create new ideas and designs.

To understand this concept better, let's take the example of Google. Google wouldn't be that successful if would only have followed the vision they created and make follow the path lead by the leader. On the other hand, the CEO of Google made his employees understand the importance of the vision and the ways one can achieve the vision. He stated the importance telling how can you expect to achieve innovation and creativity without even participating in the decision making and presenting new ideas. From here only, the leadership style or participatory was introduced: to make the employees included and make them feel empowered by letting them take the charge.

Google has achieved all of its glory and innovation because of this. By making people believe in themselves and asking them to present new ideas and innovation themselves they achieved:

1. the benefits of collective thinking and decision making.

2. numerous ideas, designs and creative styles of formation of product and services.

3. And very important, empowerment and growth among their employees.

This empowerment and growth among the employees wasn't the normal or static one. It keeps indeveloping at every point and thus making employee achieve their personal goals as well inclined with Google's organisational goals. Thus, strategic competencies and abilities were achieved giving them the edge in the market which them finally achieve their vision and hit thr sustainability criteria.
