The order of reactivity for the following monomers in anionic polymerization for the following monomers a) styrene b) methyl methacrylate c) acrylonitrile d) cyanoacrylate

arcylonitrile>cyanoacrylate > styrene > methyl arcylate

Explanation:

Anionic addition polymerization is a form of chain-growth polymerization or addition polymerization that involves thepolymerization of vinyl monomers with strong electronegative groups.[3][4] This polymerization is carried out through acarbanion active species.[5] Like all chain-growth polymerizations, it takes place in three steps: chain initiation, chain propagation, and chain termination. Living polymerizations, which lack a formal termination pathway, occur in many anionic addition polymerizations.

In order for polymerization to occur with vinyl monomers, the substituents on the double bond must be able to stabilize a negative charge. Stabilization occurs through delocalization of the negative charge. Because of the nature of the carbanion propagating center, substituents that react with bases or nucleophiles either must not be present or be protected

The reactivity of a combination of monomers depends a great deal on the nature of the polymerizing center. For example, the reactivity ratios of butadiene (1) and styrene (2) are quite different in an anionic copolymerization (r1 = 5, r2 = 0.04) and in a radical copolymerization (r1 = 1.39, r2 = 0.78). If a copolymerization is performed with a 50/50 mixture of the two, what are the initial compositions of the polymers formed in the two different copolymerization reactions?
