The reactivity of a combination of monomers depends a great deal on the nature of the polymerizing center. For example, the reactivity ratios of butadiene (1) and styrene (2) are quite different in an anionic copolymerization (r1 = 5, r2 = 0.04) and in a radical copolymerization (r1 = 1.39, r2 = 0.78). If a copolymerization is performed with a 50/50 mixture of the two, what are the initial compositions of the polymers formed in the two different copolymerization reactions?

Solutions

Expert Solution

For the anionic copolymerization, the mole fractions  of butadiene and styrene in the copolymer composition are respectively F1 = 0.85 and F2 = 0.15 .

For the radical polymerization, the mole fractions of butadiene and styrene in the copolymer composition are respectively F1 = 0.56 and F2 = 0.44 .

The detail calculation is shown below.

Effective corporate governance places a great deal of emphasis on the board of directors. Although the board’s activities should be separate from those of management which is usually responsible for day to day functions of the enterprise, they (the board) must take ultimate responsibility for the activities of the enterprise. Some of these responsibilities may be better achieved by delegation of certain matters to committees of the board, but the ultimate responsibility must rest with the board. YOU ARE REQUIRED...

By the spring of 1934, a great deal was known about poliomyelitis. The mode of transmission was known to be person-to-person. The two-phase process of the disease was well understood, and mild non-paralytic infections or anterior poliomyelitis as well as paralytic infections were all understood to be major means of contagion. Animals and most insects were eliminated as vectors. It was known that some victims will die in a few days. Some would have crippling paralysis, and others would recover...
