What social, economic and political issues do you think are most likely to engender hostility along racial and ethnic lines? How so? Explain your answer fully.
Few of the most important factors that affect the development of a nation and build tension among different racial and ethnic group are the differences and discriminations that are prevalent in social, economic and political spheres. America is a country that has verity of races and ethnic groups live in harmony. But the institutionalized racism that support the causes of White majority and forego the needs of the minority people is becoming a serious issue that threatens the unity of the nation that once faced similar problems when the country was newly formed uniting the 13 colonies. Today, there is discrimination in employment, housing, education etc. There is also discrimination in employment and salary thus forcing races other than the White work for less salary. There is also discrimination in terms of promotion where White folks are promoted very easily than the other races. Not many people from other races are recognized in the US politics with the new government’s pro-White campaigns, with the exception of Barrack Obama becoming the first Black president. So, all these institutionalized racism will result in more crime, more poverty and more racial tension that would prevent the nation from progressing and weaken its international status as the super power.
