1. When informing those involved in implementing the policy of the outcomes you expect, why is it important to be specific?

2. Give an example of an activity or activities that you would like staff to undertake to help achieve a target (also specify the target).

3. Using your example from the previous answer, get in pairs, and tell your partner what responsibilities they should have as if they are the supervisor for implementing your target.

1. Effective implementation can only be achieved when the authorities responsible for it are well versed and informed about the phenomenon that is to be implemented. Implementing the policy of the outcomes might come off as an intimidating task, as the success of the expected outcome can be assured only if due implementation by the entire population is achieved. Specificity plays a key role in this process. Those entrusted with the responsibility of implementation must be provided with all intricacies of the outcomes and the policy pertaining to it. It is important to be specific as implementation is an activity involving a certain amount of population with different individuals. A policy can be adhered to only if the needs and aspirations of all the individuals in such a population is satisfied. Hence, it is important to know all the minute details of a policy to effectively communicate them to the people and also involve in detailed explanation to ensure compliance.

2. Targets in an organization are achieved only through the continued collective effort of all the employees/team members. Hence, the most appropriate activity that the staff can undertake is team-building activities which motivate them to work together and achieve organizational goals. One such activity can be, playing corporate games which involves persuasion and strategy which will be achieved only by working in teams and empowering each other to achieve targets.

3. Responsibilities -

  • Ensure the responsibilities are well distributed among the team members according to their skill sets and strengths.
  • Ensure the goals and process of the t-be-achieved target is well communicated and understood by the team members
  • Try to mitigate any possibility of misunderstanding between the management and the team.
  • Ensure all the team-members are aligned and feel positively about the target, i.e. they believe that the target is achievable in the given time-frame.
  • To adequately motivate all the team-members towards giving their best for achieving the target by means of incentives and performance appraisals,
  • To ensure that the method and time-frame is well communicated and the team-members do not have any problem in working within them.
