Labour health science or occupational health science is a science dedicated to the anticipation,recognition,evaluation,and control of hazards in the work place.

Dicipline of occupational health is undergoing rapid development.This is largely due to the new demands and expectations from the employers ,employees and their representitive bodies as They recogonise the economic social and health benefits achieved by providing these services at work place.

Role of occupational/labour health student

• Provision for preventive measures that measures that ensure the health and safty of workers in virtually any type type of work setting,perticularly those settings in which injury may be more likely due to the presence of toxins,machinery or heavy equipment.
• development and implimenting health safty progammes
• Developing disease prevention programmes,such as smoking cessation,exercise.and healthy eating programmes.
• Documentingb all the employee injuries and illness with in the work place.
• Observing and assessing the work environment for potential dangers and hazards
• Treating injuries and illness for employeesincluding follow up and referrals.
• Overseeing and implementing emrgency and disaster preparedness progemmes and planning.
• Counselling employees on physical and mental health issues and guiding them towards communirty resources and employee asistant programmes.
