A performance appraisal is known as a performance review, performance analysis, development discussion, or worker appraisal may be a technique by that the work performance of associate degree worker is documented and evaluated. Performance appraisals have become a lot like a once in a year routine task and less of what they're supposed to be and do. Nowadays, the performance appraisal hasn’t changed much whereas the people working in the business and working of the business have changed. People are more worried and care a lot of regarding the end result since the results of these evaluations are usually linked to some sort of benefit for the employee like a raise or promotion and these generate either positive or negative feelings with reference to the approach within which the authority rated the worker. People have started to deeply question whether or not the appraisal is critical and in line with the work culture espoused by progressive organizations. Performance appraisal is one of the foremost hated and dreaded method for managers and staff. There has been a movement to get rid of performance appraisals altogether as a result of they merely don't work. firms still use archaic annual performance reviews because they have no idea what else to do.

The idea behind performance appraisals is to possess a 1-on-1 discussion together with your staff to speak concerning how well they did and the way they'll perform even better. Instead, managers are given a consistent format of what they are going to question the way they will assess every worker. The matter is that a consistent method assumes that each worker is the same. Managers aren't given enough support to deal with a good vary of emotional responses. once performance appraisals fail, it creates a negative relationship between the managers and also the staff. Managers don't know the way to follow up with the staff while not inflicting additional ill will. staff thinks of performance appraisals as a penalization.

Pros of eliminating Performance Appraisals
First and foremost because managers and employees already hate performance appraisals in the first place then eliminating such process is obviously going to bring some sort of relief to the employees because employees see these appraisals as something that generally a deciding factor whether an employee will be promoted or not or will be given a raise or not. Also, performance appraisals take a lot of time so If we eliminate these then there is going to be a lot of time saved which is beneficial for the because the employees and managers could actually focus on working rather worrying about a performance appraisal that doesn't even produce reliable results. If the evaluator has some sort of bad attitude that could lead to problems in the working environment of the business so eliminating that would be altogether beneficial for the business as well as the employees. So the pros of eliminating Performance appraisals are:

  • Avoiding conflict between managers and employees
  • Time-saved by eliminating the performance appraisal.
  • Employees focusing on actual work rather than worrying about Performace Appraisals.
  • A better path to Raise and Promotion.
  • Healthy working environment

Cons of Eliminating Performance Appraisals
There isn't much when it comes to the cons of eliminating performance appraisals. One can say that if performance appraisals are eliminated then there is a need for a better way to evaluate an employee which we don't have right now but the real problem is that employees do not want any kind of performance appraisals in the first place so whatever we do it is always going to backfire. One con is that some employees used performance appraisals as a motivating factor for them to work better, So if there is no performance appraisal then those employees could be disappointed. Performance appraisals also are used to decide upon giving raise or promotion to an employee which cannot be done if no performance appraisal is there. So the cons of eliminating performance appraisals are:

  • No better way to evaluate employees in place
  • No more Assistance to improve performance
  • Demotivation for those employees who used appraisals as motivation to work better.
  • No more Assistance to HR department to access strengths and weaknesses
  • Affecting one's personal development
