You are caring for a patient scheduled for a Total Hip Replacement tomorrow. The patient has several questions.
Patient's Questions
Q1 Answer- preparation needed before the procedure:-
1. Lose excess weight. If you're overweight, your
doctor may recommend that you lose a few pounds before hip
replacement surgery.
2.Quit smoking.
3. Stretch
and strengthen muscles.
4.Find a driver.
5.Avoid blood thinners.
6. Start newly prescribed medications/supplements.
7. Consider first-floor sleeping arrangements.
Q2 Answer :- Possible Complications During or After Surgery
Q4. Answer:- Regular exercise to restore strength
and mobility to your hip and a gradual return to everyday
activities are important for your full recovery after hip
replacement. The orthopaedic surgeon and physical therapist may
recommend that you exercise for 20 to 30 minutes, 2 or 3 times a
day during your early recovery. Following exercises are to be done
:-
1. Ankle Pumps.
2. Ankle Rotations.
3.Bed-Supported Knee Bends.
4. Abduction Exercise.
5. Standing Knee Raises.
6. Standing Hip Abduction
7. Standing Hip Extensions
8. Walking.
9. Start climbing and descending.
